wHAT IS THE WHITE CHALKY SUBSTANCE ON MY HOUSE SIDING?

That white, chalky film is called oxidation. Over time, sun exposure and weather cause the pigments in siding or metal surfaces to break down, leaving behind a faded, powdery layer. It’s similar to what happens when a piece of plastic sits outside for years—the surface starts to degrade and develops a dull, white film.

Oxidation can’t be removed with a standard house wash or basic cleaning solutions. It requires a specialized cleaning process, the right solutions, and careful manual brushing to safely lift it without damaging the surface. I offer this service as an add-on to a house wash, as the home must be washed first to ensure an even application of the oxidation-removal solution. This service is most commonly needed on siding and metal roofs.
